Talking Walls: Reimagining Public Spaces in Jasper Place

This summer, the Stony Plain Road Business Association is proud to partner with YEG Ambassadors and the Jasper Place Arts Society on Talking Walls, a community engagement project exploring assumptions and attitudes around tagging and graffiti.

Through four public art happenings across Jasper Place, local artists will lead 2–3 hour collaborative sessions inviting community members to create two-dimensional artworks together. These pieces may become small murals or be displayed in public spaces, sparking new conversations about who shapes our shared walls — and how.

Talking Walls is about more than art. It is about listening, making, and rethinking the stories our walls tell.

About the Project

Tagging and graffiti can spark many different reactions. Some people see vandalism. Others see expression, frustration, identity, or a need for more creative public space.

Talking Walls creates room for those conversations.

By bringing artists and community members together, the project invites people to think about public walls not only as surfaces, but as shared spaces that carry stories, tensions, memories, and possibilities.
