Mud, Sweat & Gears
Located at 15007 Stony Plain Road, Mud, Sweat and Gears has grown to be a well known business in the SPR community. Paul Burgess started Mud, Sweat and Gears in his laundry room 32 years ago. Once the business began to overrun his home, he opened his first location in 2006. In 2018, Burgess opened up the Stony Plain Road location and it is now the largest Mud, Sweat and Gears location! At Mud, Sweat and Gears, they sell and service everything to do with bikes, whether it’s the latest and greatest full suspension bike for the enthusiast, children’s bikes for Mom and Dad to get the kids, or electric bikes for the trail rider needing that extra boost. The store sells the best brands of parts and accessories, and also has the professional staff to keep things running.
“The staff at Mud, Sweat and Gears are most definitely the heart and soul of our business,” states Burgess, “We don’t just hire someone because they like bikes, they have to love bikes and they have to love helping people in a positive open workspace.”
Burgess tells us that it’s his philosophy to hire nice people first and foremost. Staff can be taught about bikes later, but can never be taught to be nice. Working with nice people creates a great environment, being a customer in a positive environment with nice people makes for the best experience possible, that’s what makes Mud, Sweat and Gears unique!
Although COVID-19 restrictions have made day-to-day operations different and sometimes challenging for Mud, Sweat & Gears, their customers and staff have really stepped up and recognized the importance of keeping all of them shopping and working in a safe environment.
“‘I have always been a huge proponent to shopping local, and for the past 10 years our local economies have been under attack by larger foreign retailers, and more recently, the internet,” says Burgess, “Each time we spend money with a foreign delivery app, foreign online retailer, or a foreign big box store, we give profits to those companies that do not help our tax base and I would urge all Canadians to support local business, keep our tax revenue local, be kind and abide by all public health measures.”
