2024 Construction Update

The Season Begins!

There's no escaping the warm weather, and with it brings the opportunity to push forward on construction of the Valley Line West LRT!  Read on for a summary of some work and detours you're likely to encounter in the area this spring and summer!

Stony Plain Road

Within the boundaries of our business association, the eastbound lanes on the southern portion of Stony Plain Road are currently closed from 142 to 155 Street, as MIP upgrades and replace various services beneath. Once roadwork is complete, construction will move to the north laneways, and traffic rerouted to the south lanes. Our main thoroughfare will remain impacted for several years - Please observe posted construction signage, which may change at any time!

Intersections between 151 - 153 Street on Stony Plain Road

This area has experienced delays due to unexpected elements unearthed during construction. Work proceeds, with sidewalks and road surfaces on the south side of SPR removed as services are upgraded and installed. Construction fencing and pedestrian detour pathways have been erected, but it is important to note that visibility is still greatly reduced. Crosswalk buttons with flashing lights have been installed to better alert drivers of pedeistrians attempting to cross the street.

Marigold crews will be resuming roadworks on the south side of Stony Plain Road at 151 Street and 153 Street. To accommodate this, access to/from the south side of Stony Plain Road at 151 Street and 153 Street will be closed. Traffic on Stony Plain Road is shifted north and permanently reduced to a single lane in either direction. Pedestrian access will be maintained; however, detours will be in place. Please follow area wayfinding signage. Construction will occur during daytime hours (7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday); however, some overnight work may be necessary. The public will be notified of this work in advance.

This work is expected to last until the end of August.

1) There is currently no southbound access between 151-153 Street and Stony Plain Road. Traffic is encouraged to utilize 100 Avenue as an access to business on the southern side of SPR.

2) Northbound access is still accessible at all three intersections from Stony Plain Road. However 102 Avenue is an alternative, accessible from both 149 and 156 Street.

156 Street

156 Street marks the southbound turn of the Valley Line West LRT off Stony Plain Road. Significant work will take place on 156 and SPR,  100 Avenue, and further south along the route.

Transit Stops Along STONY PLAIN ROAD & 156 StREET

Three LRT stops will be built within our district, each located in areas prime for redevelopment and increased density. These locations may have workers on site at various times throughout this construction season.

Grovenor / 142 Str

5

Abutting the new Westblock development, the potential of this location is not to be underestimated. The commercial property has additional towers planned, with vacant land surrounding the station begging for urban density projects.

SPR / 149 Str

3

With a tower redevelopment project already approved for Jasper Gates Square, this stop is another prime node for urban development and densification. The transit stop will also better physically  link the portion of the shopping district north of SPR with its larger southern portion.

Jasper Place / 156 Str

1

This stop will make access to the Orange Hub more accessible, encouraging more services. Additionally, this stop will link with Jasper Place Transit Centre for bus route access. These transit options will make travel to social services in the area much easier.
